How is hope related to schizophrenia?

Hope is a basic element of human existence, and is necessary for healthy coping. Hopelessness has been identified as a core characteristic of both depression and schizophrenia and may contribute to chronicity of the disorder. Once established, hopelessness may become a central limiting factor in the efficacy of treatment and rehabilitation of patients and can also adversely affect carers and significant others.

What is the evidence relating to hopelessness?

Low quality evidence is unable to determine any clear associations between hope and other factors associated with schizophrenia.
