Hope

How is hope related to schizophrenia?

Hope is a basic element of human existence, and is necessary for healthy coping. Hopelessness has been identified as a core characteristic of both depression and schizophrenia and may contribute to chronicity of the disorder. Once established, hopelessness may become a central limiting factor in the efficacy of treatment and rehabilitation of patients and can also adversely affect carers and significant others.

What is the evidence relating to hopelessness?

Moderate to low quality evidence suggests associations between increased hope and increased power, self-perception, insight, and quality of life.
