What are statins?

Statins are effective cholesterol lowering agents and are used to prevent cardiovascular disease. They may also have a wider usage, such as improving symptoms of schizophrenia when given in conjunction with antipsychotics.

What is the evidence for adjunctive statins?

Moderate quality evidence suggests small improvements in positive and negative symptoms in people taking statins compared to placebo. Any adverse effects of statin treatment were not reported.
